The story that affected me the most was when OBrien was talking in the end of how people try to make the dead seem alive. When I think about it it seems almost like they are trying to push back the reality of it all.
"We kept the dead alive with stories. When Ted Lavender was shot in the head, men talked about how they had never seen him so mellow...Curt Lemon had gone trick-or-treating on Halloween..." (O'Brien 226).
I think that I could relate to Kiowa in the story the most. He was a christian and he seemed at peace with the war. He was always respectful and mellow. I am more like him in the sense of humbleness and honesty. Always the quiet one but compassionate.
If I could put two characters together I would put Azar and Nick.
Similarities:
In the book Azar is the one with no compassion towards the enemy and is not afraid of revenge. In the same way Nick after his mothers death had no compassion towards the terrorists and anyone who supported them. Also in the end Azar seems to have a breaking point where he is pulling Kiowa out of the mud, in the same way Nick comes to terms with his hatred.
Differences:
Azar had no reason to hate the Vietnamese while Nick had something tragic happen to him by the enemy. And Azars ways were evil in the book and I dont believe that Nick had a huge change in his character as Azar did.
I really like how you compared yourself to Kiowa and how you are honest and compassionate, those are very amazing qualities. I agree how Nick and Azar are similar to one another.
ReplyDeleteNick and Azar seem to be very alike because of the lack of compassion. Azar had no reason, but nick did. Regardless, thats a trait both of them have.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with the story you chose because I also chose that one! When we tell stories of people who are no longer with us it makes them seem like they never left, that chapter was my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI also chose Azar and Nick! I think that they were fun to compare and contrast because of how similar yet how different their life situations truly were. I loved how you compared yourself to Kiowa I am also christian so I think that it is really neat that you found that similarity!
ReplyDeleteI really liked how you talked about O'Brien saying that they kept the dead alive with stories. I think that is something that is very important when people die. Stories are ways to bring back the good times and remember the person happy. It is very important and definitely something I do. Great quote!
