Robert Kennedy played an important role when it came to the civil rights movement. As Attorney General, he worked with his brother, John F. Kennedy (President at the time) to fight against organized crime. Robert fought to pass equal rights bills and movements. In the film there was a small segment showing Robert ordering United States Marshals outside of Montgomery, Alabama. This was because their own local police would not protect the citizens therefore Robert decided federal action needed to be taken. Not only did Kennedy protect the freedom riders but according to pbs.org on May 25, 1961, Robert delivered a radio broadcast speaking for America in relations to race. "there is no reason that in the near or the foreseeable future, a Negro could [not] become President of the United States." Robert continued to support the civil rights movement and in 1964 was elected senator for New York. Although in 1968 Robert Kennedy was assassinated during his campaign to become president.
I think that Robert Kennedy is an interesting person because of his beliefs. He is a man who is willing to fight against what he does not believe in and also helping others. I think it is really interesting how he was able to protect the freedom riders but also his statement about how in the near future a black could become president. This is cool because he was right and we now have Obama as president.

ReplyDeleteJohn Kennedy is honorable i real like the fact discharging Dr MLK from the jail. Also John had work restless to pass the civil rights act in immediate timing. Although John was looking in to the political favorable but both are accountable factors Community nor political path.
ReplyDeleteI think it's amazing how Robert Kennedy has pushed for the state government to help by having federal government come in if they didn't like protecting the freedom ride bus which lead to a big change in the civil rights movement.
ReplyDeleteRobert Kennedy is a true American hero. He genuinly believed in the cause and was willing to do anything for it. what was really special was that he was a high profile politician. This was crucial towards the cause to have someone with this creditability on the side of desegregation.
ReplyDeleteIt's truly incredible that Robert Kennedy dedicated most of his time to protect and serve the African American community. He was someone who stood up for causes he believed in and put his full effort in accomplishing what was desired. He is definitely significant in the push for civil rights and should always be remembered for doing so.
ReplyDeleteI loved how passionate of a person he was. It was amazing to see how easily he got Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. out of jail in Atlanta. He had such power and used it for the greater good. He stood up for causes he believed in and pushed for Civil Rights. He did all he could do and it helped greatly.
