Bradley Manning

The trial over Bradley Manning was a difficult one because he released controversial video and documents. What he thought he was doing right for his own country, was actually violating the Espionage Act. He claimed, "I understand that my actions violate the law. It was never my intent to hurt anyone. I only wanted to help people. When I chose to disclose classified information, I did so out of a love for my country and a sense of duty for others." He released thousands of classified documents to the public website of WikiLeaks and was ultimately sentenced to 35 years in prison. It's hard to say whether or not Manning made the right decision for his country because it did violate a major law but in his eyes, he thought he was doing the right thing by letting the public know what exactly their government was doing.

  1. This was a great topic. Beacsue it leaves us with the question in our mind did Manning do the right thing or the wrong thing? I agree this was a very controversial case.

  2. Bradley Manning case reminds me of whats going on with Edward Snowden. It makes me question whether they are doing the right or wrong thing. Some people see them as heroes, some see them as traders of there country.

  3. This was a really interesting story that I had never heard about! I think it is hard to decide if what Bradley Manning did was actually wrong because he was doing it with the intent to help people, not harm them. On the other hand though, he did violate the espionage act and was aware of it. He did this while knowing it was against it, so he should probably be punished because he knew it was wrong and did it anyways.

  5. i feel like the man was trying to play the sympathy card in saying "oh i didn't mean to do anything wrong i had good intentions" this guy knew what he was doing and he deserved the punishment he got if not a harsher one.
