The Situation of Syria

The war in Syria has been noticed by many countries and people of the world. It was a peaceful protest that had became a violent protest in 2011 due to the inspiration of Egypt's and Tunisia's revolution. This was a civil war many people were concerned with because of the use of chemical weapons by the government. The civil had started because of how the government overreacted and had killed civilians during a peaceful protest. The United Nations had wanted to get involved because of the use of chemical weapons in the war is banned since the world had a conference in 1925. The problem with this is that Russia has been blocking international action so the United Nation can't send help. Russia has also provided the government weapons and help because Russia has a naval installation in Syria that benefits Russia and that Syria is a big consumer of Russia's military exports, which provides a lot of money that Russia needs. The Obama Administration has been trying to have military strikes on Syria to punish the Syrian government of using chemical weapons. This civil war had caused over 100,000 deaths and 2 million refugees.

What I think of this situation, of Syria's civil war, is that the United States or any other nations shouldn't intervene at all. Although I know it's wrong to use chemical weapons rather than just regular weapons, I think the country should work itself out.  I think this because it's a civil war after all, a country fighting itself. If any nations did intervene it would only cause more deaths and money. It might also prolong the war because more soldiers could be replaced so there could be more stalemates and not one side could have more ground and start to take advantage. A country needs a stable government to last and a majority of the people to agree with it so that it could be kept in place.

  1. I agree with you that we shouldnt intervene with this crisis. We are already fighting in wars and losing so many people in so many horrific ways that we shouldnt spend the money or send so many soldiers to go fight when in return it could result in so many more deaths.

  2. I completely agree with you about how we should not go and intervene in Syria. It would not be a smart decision to go do that. We just got out of one war and are still currently in another so I don't see how entering another war could be justified. I think that just because there are atrocities going on in Syria doesn't mean we should get involved. The whole world doesn't need to be our responsibility.

  3. This is all very true. The Syrian government went much too far when disbanding the peaceful protests through murder and other serious crimes. They need to find some sort of order before every aspect of the country collapses and can't overcome it. Also, I agree with your stance on U.S. involvement. By putting ourselves into the situation, we begin to create more and more problems that we may have to deal with in the future. Both sides in the conflict need to find a common ground and resolve what is happening on their own.

  4. I agree with the fact you think the country needs to work itself out. It should make the civil war against only themselves and not allow other countries to get involved. Their government needs to fix itself and settle out their problems alone otherwise they may also need the help of others.
