Michael Emmett Brennan was a 27 year old firefighter for the NY Fire Department. He was from New York, NY. He died in the world trade center trying to save other peoples lives. Mikey B. as he was called by everyone who knew him attended St. Francis Prep as a kid. Michael was known as "The Prankster" by his family and friends. Mikey grew up in a large Irish Family in Queens. Mikey left college in 1995 to become a firefighter. He was 21 years old when he joined. Michael began his career at Engine 54, Ladder 4, Battalion 9, located at 48th and 8th Avenue in Manhattan. Mikey was studying to take his Lieutenant test in October, 2001 but never got the chance. Michael was also a very skilled plumber. Mikey loved to snowboard and ski. He also enjoyed many other water sports. Mikey is remembered by his parents, stepparents, 4 sisters, and 4 brothers. Mikey was not married but is dearly missed by everyone who ever knew him. On July 19, 2002, the street where Michael grew up was renamed Michael Brennan Way in memory of one of their own.  
                                                                                                                                                                                      

 

When i researched Michael the thing that meant the most to me was the fact that I started to know him. It really humanized his for me. I really feel by the end of my research of him that i personally knew him which made this blog post mean so much to me. But what really meant a lot to me was that they renamed the street of which Mikey grew up on after him. It showed that people truly cared for him, loved him and will forever remember him. Something that i learned from reading about Mikey is for one have fun with life. Don't take life to seriously because it can change in the blink of an eye. But also I learned about true bravery. It inspired me to be more than just a bystander when tragedy hits. This also inspired me for my future that i want to be the person who can make a difference in my future and those around me no matter how minimal it might seem.
